In collaboration with the Collaborative Centre for Climate, Health and Sustainable Care, this session will discuss the impact of pharmaceuticals on the environment across the lifecycle and how prescribers can support the management, mitigation and reduction of pharmaceutical contributions to water pollution and carbon emissions.
Speaker: Gillian Parker
Gillian is a Researcher at the Collaborative Centre for Climate, Health & Sustainable Care (CCCHSC) and Assistant Professor in Health Systems Research at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME),Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Dr. Parker's work focuses on pharmaceuticals and the environment, including a systems approach to understanding and mitigating risks and harms to human and environmental health from pharmaceutical carbon emissions and release into ecosystems. Her research program also focuses on improving the sustainability of health systems through realizing the environmental co-benefits of reducing low-value care.
Speaker: Gigi Wong
Gigi is a pharmacist in Vancouver, BC, who strives to increase awareness of the pharmacy impacts on planetary health, to inspire action towards more sustainable healthcare systems. Gigi focus is on increasing awareness of pharmaceuticals in the environment and its impact on non-target organisms. Over the years, Gigi has dedicated herself to serve this cause.
