Schizophrenia was the biggest health risk factor for mortality during the 2021 heat dome in BC, and similar results have been reported during extreme heat events in other jurisdictions. People with schizophrenia are at high risk of heat-related mortality due to multiple, complex, and overlapping factors. This presentation will cover information about schizophrenia as a chronic condition, how it leads to increased risk during hot weather, and what is known about those who died with schizophrenia during the 2021 heat dome.
