Peel’s Climate Change and Health Vulnerability Assessment identified heat as a climate hazard likely to impact Peel region residents. To better understand which communities are most at risk, Peel Public Health developed a Heat Vulnerability Index (HVI) that highlights areas with greater vulnerability to heat-related impacts. This PHO Rounds will demonstrate how the HVI combined multiple social, environmental, and health-related factors to map heat vulnerability across Peel’s neighbourhoods. The HVI maps revealed significant geographic variation, helping to identify communities that may need more support adapting to heat. This knowledge enables the development of tailored interventions and resource allocation to reduce inequitable health outcomes associated with extreme heat across Peel region.
