Public health in Canada has faced many challenges over the past few years, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the resurgence of measles and ongoing environmental health impacts related to climate change. To overcome these challenges and move towards a healthier, more equitable Canada, we need a competent, agile and engaged public health workforce.
After an extensive pan-Canadian engagement process, the National Collaborating Centres for Public Health released the Core Competencies for Public Health in Canada: Release 2.0 in September 2025 to strengthen and unify the public health workforce. These updated Core Competencies provide the foundation for effective public health practice. To support the uptake of these competencies, the NCCMT launched a Competency Mapping Tool to direct public health practitioners to valuable resources that can help build knowledge and skills in the Core Competencies.
Join NCCMT's upcoming free webinar to learn more about the Core Competencies for Public Health in Canada: Release 2.0 and how you can boost competence in these essential building blocks for public health practice.
