Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent, taking a heavy toll on both our physical and mental well-being. A growing body of evidence has found that climate-change related events impacting mental health, including an increase in anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, violence, and suicide.
In recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Dr. Benjamin Liu and Dr. Harshita Vullaganti from Climate Psychiatry Alliance will provide a brief overview of the links between climate change and mental health. They will highlight key studies on heat-related impacts, focusing on suicide rates and an increase of violence. They will also explore eco-distress, interventions, and resilience. Liliane Mavridara from Climate Psychology Alliance North America will provide information on Climate Cafés for those experiencing climate-related emotions.
