Hosted by US Environmental Protection Agency
The Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) provides communities funding for a range of water quality protection efforts, including emerging contaminant (EC) issues. The top ECs are microplastics, pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), harmful algal blooms (HABs), 1-4-dioxane, and 6-PPD (a chemical that prevents tires from degrading). However, the efficacy of treatment systems in removing a range of ECs is often unclear. States have expressed interest in understanding removal rates and viable treatment technologies/trains to address current public health concerns and future potential guidance on effluent levels.
This webinar will provide an overview of ongoing EPA ORD research to develop a framework of an integrated performance assessment of CWSRF relevant treatment unit processes, focusing on both removal rates of relevant ECs and associated life cycle costs and environmental impacts. Information will be compiled into a single database designed to aid decision making by states and potential CWSRF recipients. This work will provide information to states and potential CWSRF applicants on effectively managing and removing ECs to meet Clean Water Act water quality goals.
