My name is Sabrina Sandhu, I work with the Healthy Built Environment team in Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), based in Vancouver, British Columbia. As a regional team, we conduct work from Bella Coola, Powell River, Sunshine Coast, North Shore, Richmond and of course, Vancouver proper. Most of you are most likely familiar with the PHSA Linkages Toolkit, which is what our team focuses on: Healthy Neighbourhood Design, Transportation, Natural Environments, Food Systems and Housing. We work closely with the Medical Health Officers and Environmental Health Scientist on many of our projects, with partners both on an internal and external capacity. Some of our work also links core Environmental Health concerns, such as air quality, noise and heat/wildfires.
I have been an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) for over 19 years. I started work in Simon Fraser Health Region, as a drinking water sampler and then into Fraser Health Authority as a generalist EHO. When I had my first child, I moved to the Vancouver office (VCH) and have been at this office since 2005. I have been with the HBE team for over 3 years now. It has ever-evolving role where we were vested more so into Healthy Communities work to where we are now as a HBE team. I have one co-worker who also conducts similar work as I do, with support from Senior EHOs in other offices, who have HBE as part of their portfolio.
I have three beautiful children and when it's not raining, try to bike to work as much as possible.
