My name is Monique Beneteau and I'm a Health Promoter with Peterborough Public Health. We're located east of Toronto near cottage country. I have a varied portfolio but part of my work focuses on natural environments. I wrote an evidence review on outdoor playspaces for children (www.peterboroughpublichealth.ca/play) and authored the Healthy Natural Environments section of our organization's submissions to both the City and County of Peterborough official plan work, entitled Health in Official Plans: A Toolkit (CITY: https://www.peterboroughpublichealth.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/2018-06-29-CITY-OP-submission-FINAL.pdf; COUNTY: https://www.peterboroughpublichealth.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/PPH-County-OP-submission-DESIGNED-180425-FINAL.pdf). These documents were heavily shaped/influenced by the BC Healthy Built Environment Linkages Toolkit. With new public health standards in 2018, my team is making some changes and there will be a work group focused on blue and green spaces. We're in the process of conducting research on promising practices with a focus on spatial equity. If anyone has a lead or two on key documents addressing this issue, I'd love to hear about it. I'm really looking forward to learning from so many others involved in this work. I have a master's degree in applied social psychology and another in industrial relations.
