Personal Service Establishments
Personal service establishments (PSEs) provide a wide variety of services including aesthetics, tattooing, piercing, and body modification. Public health inspectors and provincial ministry staff in several provinces, as well as people working in the industry, have identified PSEs as a priority area where many gaps in regulation, guidelines, best practices, and education exist. The NCCEH has responded by identifying, synthesizing, and developing some resources for practitioners and policy-makers, including:
- Review of infections associated with PSEs: Piercing and tattooing
- Review of infections associated with PSEs: Aesthetics
- Cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization at PSEs - revised*
- Waxing fact sheet about procedures and infection control
- PSE Legislation and Guidelines
- Comparison of guidelines and regulatory frameworks
- Workshop summary highlighting gaps related to regulatory issues
